"The floating classroom is a wonderful and exciting way for students to learn about the Ohio River waterway. Students learn science best through excellent, hands-on, authentic experiences. The floating classroom exemplifies the best of such experiences!" - Bonnie Francher Switzerland County High School teacher

The PA Denny River Education Center is the budding highlight of the ORSANCO Educational Foundation's community programs. In 2004, this historic sternwheeler was renovated into a "river lab", complete with scientific classrooms. High school students from the Greater Cincinnati area have the unique opportunity to come on board this floating classroom for an educational, interactive cruise to explore and study their Ohio River. During these voyages, students are able to do hands-on activities, such as test water quality, identify aquatic organisms, and make habitat observations. While doing so, they gain a greater respect for the Ohio River and a deeper desire to protect one of our great natural resources. In addition to highschool cruises, the PA Denny also participates in community events and traveling programs along the river. |
